Peltier Cooled Incubators

Peltier cooling, AKA thermoelectric cooling, is named for the Peltier effect which it uses to cool the chamber. Compared to compressor-based cooling, Peltier cooled incubators cool much more slowly and usually have a narrower temperature range, but also are much more energy efficient, lighter and smaller, nearly silent with very little vibration, and usually longer-lasting with less maintenance.

Peltier-cooled incubators have become very commonplace for biochemical oxygen demand (B.O.D.) testing as well as the housing of drosophila. Other labs requiring only gentle heating and cooling and limited, if any, temperature changes will sometimes choose Peltier incubators for their energy savings, more compact size, and less noise.
